CLIFF of TRAGEDY The East Face of Mt. Tanigawa

With vertical drop of 1000 meters, the east face of Mt. Tanigawa had claimed
the lives of 808 by 2014.

In Mrach of 1981,one of my subordinates died in a snowstorm after a succesful ascent.
He was 27.

His father, who was a priest, wrote an epitaph for his only son:

Beloved by Heaven
the lark has risen
never to return

 天意に叶い
 上がりし雲雀 降りて来ず 土公

A funicular ropeway transports you to a ski area of 50 hectares, where you can take
an easy hiking route to the summit of Mt. Tanigawa.
